Yesterday when we were discussing the 1st mid-term, a student asked me to explain the following question:
leg-lengthened surgery or leg-lengthening surgery?
His argument was that since legs are lengthened, the former was correct.
However, the compound adjectvie is used to modify the noun "surgery." Since the surgery is performed to lengthen legs, the correct usage should be "leg-lengtheing" surgery.
