英文單字賽冠軍 愛讀英文小說、聽英文歌

今年全國英文單字大賽各組冠軍都很喜歡英文，國中組冠軍李佑軒讀華盛頓中學高一，國小至今參加7到10次英文演講比賽，每次都得第一，他打算高中畢業後就到美國史丹佛大學就讀法律科系。

李佑軒國小讀雙語學校，他表示，可能是聲音大，老師派他參英文演講比賽，且每次都得第一。英文是他最喜歡、也最拿手的科目，他聽英文廣播，也愛讀英文電影小說，例如「天使與魔鬼」、「暮光之城」等。

My comments: A student of mine read three English novels before he took the TOEFL, and he got 103/120. Another student of mine got 925/990 on TOEIC. She told me she read English novels during the commute when she was in high school. She read P.S. I Love You and a book in the Twilight series. Spencer read Harry Potter during the summer vacation before he went on to the third year. He later majored in English at NTU. I firmly believe that once we can make reading English part of our life, the language would be much easier.

他表示，學英文「聽」很重要，要從聽去學拼字等，閱讀時即使碰到不會的單字，也不會一直查單字，會利用上下文去推敲。他說自己很外向，喜歡交朋友，學英文後可跟全世界溝通、交朋友，7月去美國遊學一個月，交了西班牙、德國等多國的朋友，相當開心。

My comments: English can be a bridge connecting souls.

國小組冠軍袁葇今年讀南科實中一年級，3歲就跟家人到加拿大，一直到小二，英文對她並不難，她喜歡用英文跟同學聊天，也會聽英文故事，除了會彈鋼琴，也會拉二胡。

高中組和高職組冠軍都來自高職，主辦單位表示，高職應外科要參加高中組，高中組冠軍賴慧娟來自台中家商，今年讀台科大應外系一年級，去年也參加過拼字比賽，但闖關失敗，對語文有興趣，國小就學英文，除了愛看英文小說，也會彈鋼琴。

高職組冠軍施亞岑就讀私立樹德家商綜合高中二年級，同校很多人這次都得獎，她表示，被學校選出來比賽，在學校集訓一年，每天都要考幾百個字，後來聽到英文字就拼得出來，已變成反射動作。

My comments: A former student of mine bought the latest issue of TIME, he told me on Plurk that the magazine was hard and that he hadn't started. I encouraged him to read two paragraphs every day. Etta, another former student of mine who I taught at Chieh-show Junior High, suggested that he spend 10 minutes reading English every day and then in ten years he would make tremendous progress.

學英文除靠閱讀，施亞岑還愛聽英文歌和看電影，參加過英文朗讀比賽，她表示，學英文幾乎沒有碰過挫折，大學第一志願是文藻英文系。
