彭蒙惠：加強英聽 不要只為考試

空中英語教室創辦人彭蒙惠昨天指出，教育部擬加強學生英聽和口說能力是對的，但考試就要小心，不希望學生只是為了考試而學習。

My comments: I didn't study just for the test when I was a student. Likewise, I don't teach just to prepare students for the test.

彭蒙惠表示，學英文應先從聽開始，聽多了就可說，接著閱讀，再學習寫作，過去台灣順序倒過來，政府重視聽和口說，值得「拍拍手」。她指出，文法不是不重要，但文法是學語文的「橋梁」，而非終點，學英文不能只強調文法。

My comments: Listening and speaking are what I emphasize in class. I'm glad that Yi-ching (陳怡晴), a former student of mine who graduated two years ago, told me yesterday that she had little difficulty talking to her mother's British friends when showing them around Taipei this summer. She attributed her good performance to the training in high school. I remember how actively that class, Class 314, participated in class.

她說，學英文要有興趣，不論是否為情境式學習，只要能讓學生有興趣即可，最好能用玩遊戲的方式學習，一星期學一次不如每天學習，且可用英文去學其他知識，如他國文化、音樂等等。

My comments: For example, when students are able to read history book in English; that is, English is a tool, they can surely have a better command of English.

她表示，學英文要學有用的英文，也要真的能用，要能用英文跟全世界溝通，要鼓勵學生或各單位多聽和多講英文。例如，台灣可使用地方電視台以英語播報地方性新聞，而不要只有CNN，整個國家都可受益。

My comments: We already have local news in English here in Taiwan.

家庭為了培養孩子的英語聽和說能力，可以在家播放英語節目，每天花個10分鐘和小孩說說英語；學校可鼓勵學生每天講10分鐘英語，公司也可鼓勵員工每天說10分鐘英語。

My comments: Yes, speaking English is a skill. The best way to acquire a skill is to learn by doing.

彭蒙惠表示，考試不是不好，目的是測試學生學習成果，如果是好的測驗，她贊成舉行聽力測驗，可幫助學生善用學到的單字和文法，且應加強哪些能力。
