教育害了我?/是誰害了台灣的教育?

一句「教育害了我」,引發討論。如果台灣教育害了少年槍手,那到底是誰害了台灣的教育?

國中小屬於國民義務教育的一環,並無成績留級制度,當孩子跟不上舊課程,他還是按年齡升級,基礎不足慢慢跟不上,造成新課程的學習障礙。我曾教過國中畢業生連廿六個英文字母都寫不完全,但義務教育卻強迫這樣的孩子繼續上國三幾何,AB線段長等於CD線段長的課堂內容,如同無字幕的外國電影一樣枯燥難耐,我們如何苛求學生安分地坐在教室?但為了湊足三年時數領畢業證書,老師與學生都「相忍為畢業」,這就是「快樂學習」下的國中奇景,有國中畢業證書,卻無基本學科能力。

My comments: In learning English, students should be given placement tests so that they can be put in the correct level and keep learning in accordance with their ability.

並不是每位學生都能在學業上得到成就感,也不是每個人都必須成為科學家或工程師。從少年槍手的事件,除了給予高風險家庭的同學關心與心理輔導外,更應重視技藝班的設置與價值讓對技能取向、操作能力強的國中生,有另類發光發熱的舞台。

My comments: Good point! At the age of 14, Celine Dion decided to quit school and pursue her career. If she had been forced to sit in the classroom until she was 18, or even 22, we might have missed such a great singer. Education should help students find what they are good at. As General MacArthur said in his prayer for his son: "...to know himself is the foundation of knowledge."

並給予高職、五專更多的關注與支持,參考德國的技職教育,以五或六年制的實科中學,傳授切合實用的知識,導正技職教育「去實務化」現象,讓學業低成就的孩子不再無處可去。

My comments: If all the students took entering graduate school and then becoming a scholar or a scientist as their single goal, the world would not run properly. I respect people from all walks of life and we DO need people from all walks of life to get the world going.
