Vocabulary Competition

Yesterday in the morning assembly, awards were presented to the winners of this year's vocabulary competition. Shijen (張世仁）in Class 209 won the first prize, Chijung (陳致融) in Class 209 the 2nd prize, Hsuei-ling (廖雪伶) in Class 214 the third prize, Yi-ling (陳奕伶) and Shu-yi (楊書懿) the certificate of merits.

This competition started about 5 years ago. It consists of four sections:

Section 1: Listen and spell

Section 2: Chinese --> English (Multiple choice)

Section 3: English --> Chinese (Multiple choice)

Section 4: Listen and choose the Chinese equivalent (Multiple choice)

The competition is conducted annually. In the first two years, it took the form of paper and pen. Then it was computerized. We owe the computerization to Mr. Liao (廖耀明老師). Most of the teachers at NHSH made contributions too by writing and adding items to the item bank. The computerization has made the competition more game-like.
