Going Through Unit 6 "Body Imperfect"

Today in Class 314 we moved on to Unit 6 "Body Imperfect." It is a lesson assigned for independent study. However, taking it as a good chance for students to hold different attitude toward people with disabilities, I had decided to go through the lesson quickly with them, without going into details.

The following is what we did about the lesson in one class period.

I. Warm-up:

1. The students identified the people in the pictures in Warm-up of Unit 6.

2. The students watched a 8-minute video of John Coutis, an inspirational speaker who is a double amputee.

3. The students listened to a short story about John Coutis and answered three questions in the Listening Activity of the lesson.

4. I asked the students how they would react if they saw poeple like John Coutis coming toward them on the street. Stare at them, greet them, or look away?

II. Discussion of the unit:

Students listened to the lesson one paragraph at a time, get the gist, and answered questions from me.
