Ali's Teaching

This afternoon, my student teacher Ali (葛淑瑄) gave a teaching demonstration with Class 209. Her NTNU advisor Ms. Chen (陳秋蘭教授) and several teachers of NHSH observed her class.

Ali did a good job. Her fluent English, organized teaching, and encouraging smile made the class enjoyable.

The following is the procedure of her teaching:

I. Warm-up

1. Tells a personal story to introduce the idea of cultural difference

2. Plays a movie clip "Joy Luck Club" showing cultural difference

3. Introduces the author Amy Tan

4. Introduces the title of the article--"Fish Cheeks"

II. Presentation

1. Has students read the first two paragraphs silently

2. Asks comprehension questions

3. Explains some important points in the paragraphs

4. Teaches the sentence patterns: Upon Ving..., S V... and As soon as S V..., S V...

III. Practice

1. Has students make sentences with the patterns, using pictures as cues

2. Has students do Exercise A in their textbook

IV. Review

1. Summarizes today's class with Q & A

2. Reviews the sentence pattern by asking students to make a sentence
