A Happy Reunion

20090802 reunion-2

This evening, I had dinner with four students from the advanced English class I taught six years ago (Sep. 2003~June 2004):  Carol (林琪亞), Cloe (戴文琪), Jessie (黃詩桀), and Ken (王慶剛).  It was a small-scale but great reunion.

All of them are entering their senior year in college this coming September, majoring in different fields: Foreign Languages & Literature, Business Administration, Human Development and Family Studies, and Journalism.  Sitting and chatting with them, I had a wonderful feeling.  It felt like I was watching different flowers blooming.  Fabulousl!

I recalled the time three years ago when we had class every Friday afternoon for two hours.   All English.  Not much discussion on vocabulary or grammar.  In class, English was the tool for us to communicate, but not the subject for them to study.   Ken told us that it was in that class that he said English sentences for the first time.   With the peer pressure there, he made great progress.  Before long, he could speak very fluent English.

What impressed me most during this evening's chat was that two of them worked as international volunteers this summer.   One has set her mind on it.  They have recognized their roles as global villagers!

We chatted until 9:30.
