Hi, Losan and Peter

This noon I had lunch with Losan (羅珊), a former colleague and a good friend who is retired, and Peter (劉品君), a former student who graduated three years ago and is studying at Illinois University, Champaign, now.

In fact, Peter was Losan's student. I only taught him two days as a substitute teacher, but just because I sat next to Losan, we got to know each other. He is a very considerate man, a man of integrity.

We chatted about life and health. To our surprise, Peter cared quite a lot about health, compared to many other young people. He recommended a health care book--不生病的生活. Losan told him that most young people take health for granted with the slightest idea that they could get sick. They stay up very late, have a lot of sugared drinks, smoke, get drunk, etc.

Losan's words reminded me of a passage by Helen Keller: "Most of us take life for granted. We know that one day we must die, but usually we picture that day as far in the future. When we are in buoyant health, death is all but unimaginable. We seldom think of it. The days stretch out in an endless vista. So we go about our petty tasks, hardly aware of our listless attitude toward life."

We talked until around 4 o'clock. Thanks, Peter, for the nice meal and good chat.
