Learning/Teaching Vocabulary in Interesting Ways

This afternoon, an old colleague who is still teaching LINEd and asked me how to make vocabulary learning interesting. My answer then was what first flashed into my mind:

"Use the words to talk about students' or our own life." This is what I used to do. Relating what the students are learning to real life brings life to the words.

"Have students present a skit using three to four of the new words. For example, vocabulary words 1-4 for Group 1, 5-8 for Group 2...." When students have to put the words in context that makes sense, they remember the words.

Since I was hurrying out then, I only offered these two suggestions.
