This afternoon, my two classes had a special guest--Konraad, an old friend of mine. It's been more than three years since he last paid a visit to my former classes.

KK spent one talking to each of the classes. The students asked questions to get to know more about him. Interestingly, boys asked a lot of questions about sports, which they would never ask me. Was it because KK looked strong and sporty?

Besides small talk, the students asked some really good questions, such as

"Why did you come to Taiwan?"

"What do you think of America's financial policy?"

"Which education system is better? Taiwan or the States?"

"What do you think is the most important thing to learn in college?"

"What did college education mean to you?"

"Did you ever have any bad experience in Taiwan?"

"Will you have your kids go to cram school?"

When talking about going to college, KK suggested the students try many things in college so that they could find what they really loved. As to the education system, KK said it depended. In his viewpoint, students quick to absorb knowledge will do fine in Taiwan. He added that though high school students in Taiwan worked harder than their counterparts in the States, they did learn more. According to him, when he was in high school, the school started at 8:30 and ended at 3pm. After school, the students did a lot of sports.

KK told the students he wouldn't have his kids go to cram school. He would rather they got involved in many other activities.

When asked what the best way to learn English was, KK answered that the best way was to use the language. He said some students he knew who were really good at English watched English movies or TV shows without Chinese subtitles and then discussed them in English.

My purpose of inviting a native speaker to class is to let the students feel the power of English, which can bridge the gap between two souls from different countries. The students did have a good time with KK. They talked and laughed. I was happy to see passion in their eyes. Good!
