An Interview with Shih-jen

This noon, Shih-jen (張世仁), a student in Class 209, was given an interview to decide whether she was eligible to waive the 2nd-year English course in high school. Chris (林詠梅老師), Wei-yun (楊葦芸老師), and I were the interviewers.

Our quetsions were:

1. Please tell us about your experience of learning English.

2. Why didn't your parents send you to an all-English kindergarten?

3. Why didn't you apply for the waiver of the English course last year?

4. Tell us about CSI, which you mentioned in your mini biography. Which part do you like best, New York, Miami, Las Vegas?

5. Tell us the most interesting part in your English learning experience.

6. What book are you reading now?

7. Did you ever complain in the process since you had to put so much time and effort in the learning of English?

8. If you were parents, would you do the same thing as your parents have done?

9. Some students also go to after-school English class, but their English is still not good enough. What made you different from them?

10. Any suggestions for English learners?

11. If you can have the course waived, what will you do during the 5 hours you will spend in the library?

After a pleasant chat, all three of us agreed to let her waive the course. Her English is really good. She speaks fluently without any trace of Chinese accent though she's never traveled anywhere outside Asia.
