A Good Way to Practice Speaking English

Failing to find online the UDN article I read yesterday "賴世雄 開創兩岸英語王國," an excerpt from a book to be published on Oct. 27, 幸福力 (The Power of Happiness), I would like to talk about one thing mentioned in the article: a way Mr. Lai practiced speaking when he was young.

When Mr. Lai was in military academy, every day the students had to listen to the principal's lecture at the morning assembly. While his schoolmates showed impatience, he looked relaxed and sometimes even smiled.

How did he make it? Well, he translated the principal's lecture into English chunk by chunk. See? By making the most of what others took as an ordeal, Mr. Lai not only got into a good mood but also improved his English. He didn't waste time at all.
