A List of English Books a Second-year High School Student Has Read

To make Shih-jen (張世仁) eligible to waive the 2nd-year English course, this morning I asked her to list the English books she has read so far. The following is the list she gave me:

1. Tuesdays with Morrie (最後十四堂星期二的課)

2. For One More Day (再給我一天)
3. The Five People You Meet in Heaven (在天堂遇見的五個人)

 (The above three were written by Mitch Albom.)

4. Harry Potter Series 1~7

5. Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult (事發的十九分鐘)

6. My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult (姊姊的守護者)

7. The Hole by Guy Burt

8. Charlotte’s Web

9. Bridge to Terrabithia (尋找夢奇地) by Katherine Paterson and Donna Diamond

10. *Junie B. Jones Series

Among these books, Junie B. Jones was what she read when she was a kid. This is not a comprehensive list. Shih-jen must have read more than these.

To such a student as Shih-jen, what we do in class now must be too easy for her. It would be better for her to have the English course waived and do some independent study.
