"Teach students everyday English please"--from Sunday China Post
Besides the "Ask Alexander" column, there is "Campus Voice," where students in Taiwan talk about education issues.
Here's an example:
Again, I typed it up.
Teach students everyday English please
Campus Voice
To the editor:
Many English teachers in Taiwan always teach students how to get good graes on English tests rather than teach them how to use English in their daily lives. This kind of teaching may help make thme read and write English well, but students also need to learn to speak and understand English.
There is no doubt that sufficient exposure to English makes a big difference. Here are three steps we students should take to improve our abilities to speak and understand English.
First, we need better teachers or native speakers to teach us English. The more we use English with them, the better our English skills will surely become.
Second, students should watch English films on TV without Chinese subtitles. This can make students feel that they are together with the characters in the films.
Third, students need to listen carefully to English radio programs. This is a very useful way to improve our listening comprehension.
These procedures, I believe, can strengthen our English greatly.
