Bravo, Yu-ting!

This evening, a former student Yu-ting (顏渝庭) called to share with me a piece of good news.  She passed the test and got admitted to the Department of English at National Chengchi University.  And she tops the list.  This is really something!   Yu-ting is a Chinese major at National Cheng Kung University currently and going to graduate this summer.

Of course I felt happy for her when hearing the good news.  However, what made me even happier was about her perseverance.   Her story proves that if you REALLY want something, you can get it.  When she was a sophomore, she told me about her plan to major in English when going to graduate school.   With this dream in her mind, she went to the English corner at her university to practice speaking English and took some courses in the Department of English.   And finally she made it.  In fact, she has gotten two other admissions: National Chinghua University and National Central University.  In our last conversation weeks ago, she told me how she wanted to come back to Taipei to study, and now, a dream come true.

Her perseverance showed when she was in high school.  In her third year, she and a male classmate of hers "PKed" English writing almost every day.  Each of them would write an essay every day, hand it in to me to be graded, and see who got a higher score.  If one felt lazy, the other would push him/her.  This really impressed me.

Congratulations, Yu-ting, on your admission to a dream school and your persistence.  Bravo!
