Three Essays by Students about Animal Abuse

The following are three essays by students for the writing task on the 3rd mock exam. All the three are in their original form.

1. 

Long time ago, I saw a news on TV. It was about a kitty being treated badly. Its master pulled out its fur and kicked it whenever he was unhappy or drunk. The reporter showed the kitty’s picture on TV. One of the kitty’s eyes was blind and there were lots of scars on its face and body. I felt sad and angry when I saw the news. “How could he treat it so badly?” I thought. Though I was still a kid, I could help those animals through many ways.

As a student, my ability is limited, but there are still many ways to help them. For example, when I see homeless animals, I can take it to the hospital. In addition, I can hold an activity to help those animals find a new home. I can also be a volunteer in the animal hospital. Though I’m just a student, I believe that if we really have the heart to help those animals, no matter what difficulties we are faced, we’ll conquer them. (174 words)

“Cruelty performed! NTU PHD student torture and kill cats!” The horrorfying headline of China Times Daily News shot in to my retina as I was halfway through my breakfast. I was so shocked that the mouth-full of milk sprayed my dad in the face, who gave me a reproachful stare. I looked down at the newspaper once more and read from the article that not only did the guy tortured and killed those cats, he also took pictures of the disfigured, dismembered and lifeless forms and uploaded them on the internet! “God damn!” I cried out, this time, with bits of toast tangled in his hair, my father told me I should be on my way to school and literally kicked me out of the house.

Walking along the sidewalk, the terrible news was still in my head. I mean, who in the right mind would kill cute animals like cats, and a highly educated person at that! If I saw a cat stray across my path, I would try to pat it and even give it some food if I had any to spare. If I saw a dog ran over by a car, I would take it to the vet or at least place it out of harms way. If I…… Absorbed in my own thoughts, I almost squashed a catipilar! I stopped my foot just in time. With a stick, I guided the innocent creature back on a tree. Happy that I did a good deed, I got on the bus I was waiting for.

“I will make the world a better place, for both human and animals.” I swore to myself. (275 words)

As more and more people had pets, more and more pets were abandoned. A Few months ago, I saw a report related to the abused animals. Someone abandoned his dog on the street and therefore the dog was “played” by a group of teenagers. They used a rope to tie around the dog’s neck and beated it. In a couple of days, the dog became skinny and weak on account of having not eat food for a long time. When the firefighter came to rescue, the dog’s throat had already been injured because of the rope around his neck.

Being a high school student, I can’t promise I’m capable of rescuing all of the abused animals. Nevertheless, I can tell my friends and their families to pounder over again if they really want to have a pet. Besides, I can tell all the people around me the importance of respecting lives. After all, they are all creatures living on Earth like us, desiring to live with happiness and soundness. (169 words)
