More Than Academic Success

拼命補習 教部：家長觀念要改

研究指出，補習補太多，成績反而退步，學者呼籲教育當局扭轉補習風氣。教育部中教司長張明文回應學者觀點表示，「少子化之後，學生升學有更多的選擇，考試成績不再是唯一的競爭優勢」，建議家長，與其花錢讓孩子補習，不如找出孩子的優勢。

My comments: All parents should read the book The Element : How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything. To those who are not academically-oriented, going to cram school is a waste of time and money. Their innate talent very likely goes undiscovered.

張明文表示，補習對有些孩子有幫助，但很多學生去補習，只是因為看到別人都在補，不補不行，這樣補習的效果絕對不好。他表示，要改變補習風氣，家長的觀念要先改變。尤其是學生人數下降後，升學選擇更多元化，要給孩子的不是考試的能力，而是良好的人際關係、人格及品格教育、團隊精神、體能及才藝等，這些都是補習補不出來的。

My comments: I told my students that school education is not limited to academic success. There are a lot to learn: patience, perseverance, compassion, teamwork, and aesthetics, just to name a few.
