A Webpage for Smilies

http://frostar.2y.net/News/!/mysmilies.htm

While I was getting some pictures from the Net as visual aids for Unit 11 "The Cellist of Sarajevo," I found a picture at this webpage to vividly illustrate the word "agonized." At this page, there are many more smilies to be found for different emotions.

A picture makes an abstract idea concrete. Last week, we came across the word "masonry" in Unit 11:

"With masonry exploding around him, he courageously fought for human dignity, for those who had been lost to war, for civilization, for compassion, and for peace."

The definition for the word masonry in the textbook is: "the part of a building or a wall made of stone or bricks."

The definition still cannot give students a clear image of what masonry is like. So I showed to them a few pictures of masonry structures through PowerPoint.

Without a doubt, this is a breakthrough.  And we owe it to the Internet.
