New Taipei City English Speech Contest

Days ago, I was invited to be a judge for the New Taipei City Junior High School English Speech Contest, which was held today. The other two judges were Mark and Ms. Chiao-yu Chen.

The 54 contestants gave a 2-3 minutes speech based on the above picture. Most of them talked about their family taking a trip to the countryside and having a good time.

Mark was the first to give comments, followed by me and Ms. Chen. Mark was really kind. He kept encouraged the students by saying how good they were and recognized the great effort they had put into learning English. I was a little bit "crueler." In addition to complimenting the contestants on their English speaking skills, including good pronunciation and fluency, I suggested they read the picture more carefully so that they can give a more accurate account of the story and that they use the 6 WH-questions to grab ideas for the story telling.
