雅思英測台灣躍進 亞洲只輸香港

英國文化協會昨天公布2007年至2012年  雅思英語測驗（IELTS）統計，台灣考生在聽、說、讀、寫皆有顯著攀升，尤以寫作、口說進步最多；與鄰近的大陸、香港、韓國、日本等亞洲國家相較，台灣考生表現僅次於以英語為母語之一的香港，排名第二。

My comments: Those who are interested in getting into universities in the UK have to take IELTS (International English Language Test System).

英國文化協會分析，台灣考生較強的是英文的「閱讀」能力，平均分數為6.0分；寫作項目雖然表現較差，平均只有5.5分，但5年來從5.59分進步到5.9分，已有顯著進步。

My commnts: Scores can range from 1 to 9 for each part of the test: Listening, Reading, Writing, an Speaking.

                          How did they get the average score 5.5?

台師大英語系畢業，曾在南門國中任教的林恩如認為，台灣學生學英語仍偏重「穩紮穩打」的文法基本功，但近年考生寫作成績之所以進步這麼快，練習英語的管道更廣泛，近年通識英語課開始重視寫作，都是主要因素。

台大社會系畢業的柳冠竹指出，台灣人學英語常會陷入「無法跳脫中文框架」的迷思，他以自身經驗建議，在準備考試過程可多方面蒐集學習材料，像是經濟學人雜誌、TED網站等管道。另外，多做模擬試題和真人演練，也都能有效提升英語能力。

My comments: The magazne The Economist is widely acknowledged as one of the best magazines in the world. TED is a website I always highly recommend to my students.
