How to Memorize Vocabulary

My survey done yesterday shows that most of the students in the make-up class find English difficult because of the vast number of vocabulary. They have often been intimidated by new words on the test and can't remember words well.

A good way to help memorize English words is by using word cards. On one side of the card, learners can write down an English vocabulary word, and on the other side, its Chinese meaning. Then they can take the cards out whenever they find it convenient and review the words by seeing the English word and recalling its Chinese equivalent, or the other way around.

Repetition is another way to help remember words better. For example, exposed to the word "rabies" many times, either by reading or listening to news, one will remember it without any difficulty.

When it comes to spelling, reading aloud is a must-do. It helps to establish the connection between sound and spelling. For example, when seeing a learner misspell the word "remain" as "remind," we know what his/her problem lies.
