Intrinsic Motivation

This morning, I bumped into a former student Jack (莊子賢), who graduated from NHSH four years ago. He came back to school to get some documents for his military service. I went to submit the final grades of the summer class. We had the right timing.

Jack is excellent in English, having no problem at all communicating with foreigners. In fact, he has quite a few international friends. Asked how he's acquired such good English proficiency, he said since he was little, living in Tienmu, he had been curious about and interested in foreign cultures. He has intrinsic motivation for learning English, which usually lasts longer than extrinsic motivation. Those who have love for the English language and culture will keep learning the language throughout their life. Learning and using English itself is an enjoyment. In turn, with a good command of English, they have the whole world as their stage. Jack is a good example.
