A Visit to Taichung Girls' Senior High School

tghg

Today 16 NHSH teachers paid a visit to Taichung Girls' Senior High School. We set off at around 7:10 AM and got there about 10:20.

What impressed me most was the visit to the creative teaching center, where a class was building blocks in groups, and the advanced English class, where a native speaker was talking with the students about current international issues.

The following are some important messages the principal of the school Mr. Dai (戴旭璋校長) got across.

1. What happens in the classroom is important.

2. College can provide useful resources.

3. Students needn't take too many courses. At least one third of the current high school courses can be taken off campus.

4. Make good use of distance learning.

5. After students finish their study tour, they are supposed to give reports, compile books and hold an exhibition of what they have collected in the foreign country.

6. In holding exhibitions, what or how many are displayed is not important. It is the idea of sharing that matters.

7. Learning through playing not only helps students internalize what they're learning but also maintains their willingness to keep learning.

8. Enhance interschool and inter-subject cooperation. The purpose is to help students learn well.

9. Have students give presentations, which helps them learn to communicate with people.

10. Students don't need many tests to learn well.

11. Teachers should engage in professional dialogues often.
