An Acitivity for Teaching Vocabulary

The day before yesterday, I had the students play with the new words of Lesson 2. The students form groups of 4~6. Each group had to created a skit using three words assigned to them, for example, regard, perfect, and digusted/disgusting/disgust. They had only 5 minutes to come up with their skit. Then I collected the papers, read them, corrected some mistakes, and gave the scripts back to the students yesterday.

Today, 10 minutes before the class was over, the students performed their skit in turn. Before the performance, they had three minutes to rehearse. The following is the skit of the group using the words mentioned above:

Narrator: Amy lived in a disgusting place. She didn’t take a shower every day. One day, she met a witch, and it changed her life. She became a pretty girl and led a new life. Then a prince fell in love with her when they first met. He regarded Amy as a perfect bride.

(Three students acted the story out simultaneously.)

Most groups did quite a good job. With practice, they said their lines fluently. The only problem was not in the scripts or their acting, but in their voice.  Some of the students spoke too softly to be heard clearly. However, all of them tried their best. We'll keep doing this activity for some other lessons.
