My comments: Read extensively. This is what I always tell my students to do. I'm happy that recently, some students have borrowed English novels and magazines from me, such as The Alchemist, The Reader, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Reader's Digest, etc. At the end of this entry is a list of the novels my former student June Chang (張世仁) read before her second year of high school.

Ching-yun (蔡景勻), a student in Class 303, asked me last Friday if he needed to look up the new words while reading Reader's Digest. My answer was "No. You can underline the words and learn them after finishing reading the article." I was glad when he told me the magazine was interesting, with his eyes sparkling.

My comments: When it comes to learning language, reading is a one-for-all activity. Even when my students asked me how to review the textbooks, I always tell them to start with the reading text instead of the vocabulary.

My comments: Around 15 years ago, a former student of mine Jung-husan (陳蓉萱) got early admission to the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of NTU. She read Seventeen and listend to ICRT. Some might think Seventeen and People are dripping with juicy gossip; however, they do help enhance English learners' reading ability.
