Farewell, Losan (羅珊)

My dear friend Losan (羅珊老師), who retired from NHSH around four years ago, passed away on January 17 from cancer. Her funeral will be held at 8:30am on Thursday, Feb. 2 at Hui-en Hall of the Taipei Second Funeral Parlor (台北市立第二殯儀館懷恩廳) on Hsin-hi Road.

On the morning of January 17, four colleagues and I visited her at the hospice in Keelung. Though she didn't open her eyes to see us, we knew she could hear us. We told her some current events so that she could still feel connected to this lovely world. That evening, we got a text message from her husband, telling us she had passed away.

Losan had been fighting against cancer for almost four years. Though the chemotheraphy was unbearable, every time we saw her, she always had a tender smile on her face. She still went out with us, chatting happily over lunch, not looking like a cancer patient at all. During our gathering, I liked to stare at her beautiful face, amazed at her strength and will to live. She told us she hoped she would live to see her son get married and help take care of his baby....

However, finally we still lost her. Sad as I am, I hold the belief that she is living a more peaceful life in another world, just as Sally told Paul in "Information Please," "there are other worlds to sing in."

Farewell, Losan, my dear friend. You are always in our hearts. We love you.

gathering with Losan

The photo was taken on July 27, 2010. Though Losan, the third one on the left, had been sick for more than two years, she still looked so graceful, so elegant.
