分享學英語方法 空少：掌握3M

學校放寒假了，彰化縣立田中高中英文老師黃雁祥邀請國泰航空公司「空中少爺」羅國方，到學校與學生分享飛行筆記；羅國方鼓勵學生說，人生要有夢和熱情，努力學好英語，不僅能找到好工作，也能快樂地遨遊世界。

My comments: Having a dream, we have a purpose to live. Having passion, we enjoy pursuing the dream. For example, a former student of mine decided to get into a prestigious university by the summer vacation before his senior year, and he had spared no effort to study since then. Better yet, he enjoyed the process. Finally, he went to NTU, his dream school.

黃雁祥說，羅國方是他的好友，具有美國紐約州大學英語教學碩士學位，曾任翻譯員、成人英語教師，以輕鬆詼諧的方式，跟學生分享學習英語和當空服員的經驗。

羅國方說，他念國中時，英語常考不及格，因夢想環遊世界，立志當空服員，因此努力學英語，後來參加托福考試還拿滿分，出國研究英文教學，如願當上空中少爺。

My comments: Find your purpose of learning English. Get going, and move on.

羅國方說他是資深空服員，已是是空「爺」了，同樣資深的女空服員，也不能講「空姐」，要說「空奶」，引起台下120多名學生大笑。他還帶來澳洲的無尾熊布偶、鑰匙圈當有獎徵答小禮物，讓同學感覺2小時的演講，像是一趟快樂旅程。

羅國方說，學好英文的方法就是「3M」，找到學習動機（Motivation），建立學習模式（Modet），持之以恆（Maintenance）。

「英語是旅遊最輕便的行李」羅國方跟學生說，英語是全世界90%都在學習的語言，可以幫你走遍世界，結交不同國籍的朋友，也是求職、升遷、加薪的好幫手。

My comments: These are examples of extrinsic motivation for learning English.  On the other hand, there is intrinsic motivation: the love of the language.  Ken (王慶剛), a former student of mine, told me on his visit about two weeks ago that he felt happiest when he was reading some English literature.  That is how intrinsic motivation came into play.  He read those literary works for no reason other than the pleasure he got from it.
