Every year, CEEC posts good Chinese and English essays written on the SAT and UEE. The following is a news report in the UDN, which presents two among the 29 for this year's UEE, both of which are marvelous.

指考「寬與深」佳作 賈伯斯、林懷民入文

今年大學指考國文作文「寬與深」引起不少討論，大考中心昨天公布國文和英文作文佳作共29篇，不論國文和英文作文都有學生以蘋果公司董事長賈伯斯為例，顯示他相當受青睞。
My comments: His life story and 2005 Stanford commencement speech are really inspirational. Since 2008, it's always been the first article I gave my senior students to read. The first time I introduced it to my students was in 2007, and a girl told me she was moved to tears when she read it.
大考中心公布國文作文佳作14篇，英文作文則15篇，除了作文內容，還有大考中心評選說明，大考中心說，選文除內容類型多樣化、字詞使用正確性，也考量校際與地區分布，網址為http://www.ceec.edu.tw/。
國文作文「寬與深」，不少學生都以古今中外名人為例，來支持論點。有學生以人生境界來發想，提出的主旨為，人生在寬與深的調合中，才能展現最的生命韌度，擴展人生的價值。接著就舉牛頓與史懷哲為例，印證不同的生命姿態，只要有決心，並肯努力，都能達到寬又深的生命境界。大考中心評為見解不俗，體會深刻，結構嚴謹，且有層次。
My comments: This is the one presented below by the UDN, a really persuasive essay.
有學生認為人應該突破現狀，才能發現世界的寬與深，並以莎士比亞利用當馬車伕時培養編寫戲劇能力，說明學習須兼顧深與寬。
也有學生以雲門舞集創辦人林懷民為例，指出他編舞前周遊異國，揉合各種元素，呈現出風格的寬度；要求舞者打坐習禪，由靜生定，則要培植心靈的深度，評閱委員認為表述清新、論證有力。
也有考生從批判角度切入，以現在教育方式為例子，反省制式教育長時間讀課本及參考書，以及經常練習題目，只追求「正解」與「好成績」，根本很難培養具「寬」與「深」的人才。
熱門人物賈伯斯很受學生青睞，不論奮鬥歷程或演講內容，國文或英文作文，學生都拿來當例子。國文方面，有學生強調人生要寬與深並重，才能開展繽紛天地，舉了星巴克執行長霍華．舒茲、賈伯斯、作家簡媜與柏拉圖等人為例，說明寬與深的重要。
My comme nts: I told students to know one famous figure in and out so that they could always use him or her to illustrate their point of view when writing an essay.
英文作文題目為「畢業舞會」，第一段要寫畢業典禮對考生的意義，第二段說明該如何安排或進行活動才能呈現出這個意義。
有考生談到現在很多畢典都為了娛樂學生，失去真正的意義，之前透過網路看到賈伯斯受邀在史丹福大學畢業典禮講如何克服困難等的小故事，久久都忘不了，認為畢業典禮就該安排像這樣有意義且感人的演講，才能讓畢業生留下深刻印象。

寬與深
「寬」，是人生的廣度和豐富度；「深」，則是人生的厚度，寬與深看似人生的不同面向，但事實上，人生在寬與深的調合中，方能展現最強的生命韌度，擴展人生的價值。
古典物理學大師—牛頓使世人見識到了知識的深度、人生的寬度。年輕時即以高度的科學天分嶄露他的不凡，後來更發表了「萬有引力」和「牛頓三大運動定律」使他獲皇家科學院的殊榮，但他在深入探討力學後，更進一步轉往光學方面的研究，甚至老年時還竭盡心力研究微積分理論。他的成就不僅深遠而且層面寬廣，關鍵就在於他行事的認真、踏實，和專注。在人生各階段中，都有「階段性任務」，若專心一意地將心力投注於各階段上，那人生的「寬與深」便能兼顧。
當然，欲發展人生的「寬」或「深」取決於自身能力和外在因素，並非都能像牛頓一般達到人生境界的最佳平衡點。史懷哲三十歲時便獲得了三種領域的博士學位，但在傾聽「內心的鼓聲」、理想的呼喚後，他決心習醫，並前往非洲落後地區行醫、助人。因為認清所求，他勇敢堅毅地在各領域中轉換，雖然因生命有限，而無法更深入地鑽研各領域的知識，但是，所學之廣豐富了他人文、科學各方面的才能，並且在實踐行醫理想的歲月中，他不也為自己的人生注入了更深的愛和關懷嗎？這，亦是另一層面的「深度」。
人生，是追尋和實踐的過程。在追尋中，我們將遭遇各式的選擇，體驗各色的人生風貌—這便是人生的「寬度」；在實踐中，我們竭盡心力灌溉夢想、追求卓越，在一次又一次的試煉與考驗中錘煉自我，增強能力—這便是人生的「深度」。牛頓和史懷哲皆依循自己的內心，勇敢畫出屬於自己獨特的「生命輿圖」，深與廣不再局限他們的人生意義，因為他們已用堅定的信念和努力地付出，使「深與廣的調合」綻放獨特的生命價值。
題目：你認為畢業典禮應該是個溫馨感人、活潑熱鬧、或是嚴肅傷感的場景？請寫一篇英文作文說明你對畢業典禮的看法。
In my opinion, graduation ceremony represents a milestone of starting off a new life. Life is like a long journey, and we travelers may go through many different phases. School is like a train station. We meet ecah other in this stop but we eventually have to go on our own way. Graduation means that we have to bid farewell to our beloved teachers, friends and the campus. It also stands for our independence, for we had studied in the school for several years and developed a more mature character. We found our interests and our own field in the campus and there are innumerable percious memories in our school life. Therefore, graduation ceremony is very important to students. Graduation ceremony is not a symbol of ending, on the contrary, it symbolizes a new start of our bright life.
It is a pity that most of the graduation ceremony nowadays aims at entertaining students and loses its true meaning. I've seen the gratuation ceremony of Standford University on the Internet, and it has been engraved in my mind until today. There wasn't amazing shows but a touching speech delivered by the CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs told the graduates three stories of his own life. The stories were all about lifes and turning difficulties into opportunities. Besides, he encouraged students to take challenges and never give up. It has shed a light on me and I was deeply moved by his words. My ideal graduation ceremony should be like that of Standford. It should have a meaningful and touching speech that would be stamped on students' mind forever. A great graduation ceremony stands for many important meanings. It will not only move the participants during the event but also influence all of them for good.
My comments: The first paragraph is well-organized. It starts with the topic sentence, followed by supporting sentences, and ends with a concluding sentence, which echoes the topic sentence with different wording.
