A Summary of "The Girl in the Fifth Row"

I had the students read a Chicken Soup story, "The Girl in the Fifth Row," around two weeks ago. Most of the students rated it as their favorite among the four stories they have read by the end of last week.

I encouraged but didn't force the students to write a summary of the story. The following is one by a student in Clas 311.

Summary of “The Girl in the Fifth Row”

On the first day of teaching, Leo was so anxious that he stammered in the beginning. However, a student in the fifth row, Liani’s enthusiasm came to his rescue. Liana further gave him confidence and pulled him through the awkwardness. Later on, he had all his students visit his office, yet Liani never made an appearance. After his inquiries, he dug out the fat in shock that Liani had committed suicide. HE then realized that he love issue was such an important lesson people should pay attention to. Consequently, he started Love Class. He taught his students to show love in action, care about people around them, and share joy with people. In the long run, those little acts the class had done made all the difference. And he believed his love for Liani had already reached her in some mysterious way. (142 words) (311郭于靖)
