學測英文作文 雙峰現象仍嚴重

今年大學學測英文考看四格連環圖寫作，以化妝舞會為主題自己想結局，不少考生選擇快樂結局，也有考生寫男主角因歌聲太差感到羞恥而自殺。學測英文科閱卷召集人張武昌強調，只要切題、連貫及句子結構妥適表達文意，即使負面結局，也不會影響成績。

My comments: Though raters should be objective, in my opinion, it's better to give a positive ending.

台師大英語系教授的張武昌指出，今年考題不論翻譯和作文，都很生活化，英文作文滿分廿分，歷年考生平均只有七分，「希望今年成績能提升到十分」。

英文雙峰現象一向明顯，以作文為例，張武昌說，有人交白卷，也有人寫了兩句「go to a party」、「see a girl」接著就「game over 」，這名考生提到party，至少還有一分。

My comments: I told my students university professors are more generous in grading.

張武昌說，在試閱的三千份考卷中，只有少數考生會拼化妝舞會的英文「masquerade」，有人描寫女主角其實是男生假扮，學到教訓是以後都不參加化妝舞會，但又留伏筆，也許下次可能碰到天命天女，是可得十九分的佳作。

My comments: Good! This is a positive ending.

他指出，考生將化妝舞會寫成costume party或cosplay party也算正確，但若寫成makeup party、dressing party、disguising party則不對，會被扣分。

My comments: In fact, if students avoid the special term "masquerade" and use the word "party," it would still be safe, I believe.

張武昌也說，程度好的考生，雖然不會寫masquerade這個字，但會轉個彎寫「I was invited to a party, and everyone was required to wear a mask（或costume）.」雖然沒有直接提到「化妝舞會」這個字，但詞意正確。

My comments: This isa so-called "communication strategy."

英文翻譯考夜市，張武昌表示，這些都是高中生熟悉字詞，中等程度以上考生如果能使用正確句型並注意拼字，應能得到理想分數。

不過，仍有很多考生拼字錯誤，把night markets寫成nightmarkets，或名詞單複數錯誤，如把from different countries寫成from different country等。

My comments: Using a singular noun when a plural form should be used is a common mistake made by Chinese students.
