A friend of mine asked me to give advice to her son this afternoon on how to prepare in the last month for the CEE English test which is held in early July. To give him practical suggestions, I invited two former students via FB a few days ago to share their experiences. Both of them got over 80 in English on the 2012 CEE. What impressed me was that on the SAT in in that year's February, one of them got only a 10 ranking score on a scale of 15, approximately 60 out of 100 points. The great progress was due to his hard work.
The following is what they shared:
1. Wang, Wen (王彣), now a junior at National Central University:
其實我會考80分我也很意外我覺得是靠閱讀題拿起來的我看的東西就是課本 考古題 和文法的書......單字我記得我沒背很多但最重要的點就是要多讀閱讀題 前面的那些題目如果看不太懂可以用名詞或形容詞來猜 單字的話 也不能太少啦 所以重點就是把課本單字全背起來 之後就多看考古題跟多閱讀來學習單字吧
My comments: Reading is a very efficient way to learn and review vocabulary words. Doing some past tests is a must. Getting familiar with the format of the test not only gives one the right direction of preparation for the test but also eases the tension, which tends to be high in the face of uncertainty.
2. From Chen, Meng-tzer (陳孟澤), also a junior at National Central University
英文算是我用高三下半年花最久準備的科目（學測英文只有10級分）雖然我用讀書的方式非常投機 不會讓英文變到非常強 不過考試可以考一定的水準 哈哈 不過對一個抱佛腳的人來說還算有效

那時候好像佔32分一題兩分
其他單字·文法.克漏字.文意選填一題只有一分
最推薦的辦法是去寫書局買[的]模擬考題
我最後一個月好像寫了四本
My comments: If a book contains ten mock tests, Meng-tzer did 40 tests in 30 days!
大部分出版社出的模擬考題每回前面都有文法小解說看一看多少有點用
題庫的第一大題單字還滿好用的
至少一題可以背四個單字
在訂正單字的時候我習慣用紅筆把我不會的單字抄一兩遍在旁邊
然後每天讀完書前把整本書翻一翻看看紅筆的部分有沒有忘記的單字
My comments: Repetition helps with memory retention.
(所以盡量不要在旁邊寫中文解釋不然看到會以為自己已經會了呵呵)
題庫的閱讀測驗雖然詳解寫的不是很好 不過還是值得寫 （我自己沒有額外買閱讀測驗的題庫）
因為大部分題庫文章都會比考試長一些 很好訓練專注度
準備閱讀測驗的時候
先不要看題目直接讀文章
我覺得這樣對整篇文章了解會比較深入
My comments: My strategy is different from his. I suggested that students go over the questions first so that they had the purpose of reading a passage.
看文章的時候我會在文章上把自己覺得重要的地方畫底線或圈起來
看題目回來 比較好找
My comments: Also a tip I gave my students. However, tests such as TOEFL and GRE prohibit testees from putting any mark on the test booklet.
不管文章多長盡量要在三到五分鐘把一篇文章讀懂寫完 考試的時候會比較放心
其他大題準備方式就跟單字差不多
讀書大概一百分鐘休息二十分鐘吧
My comments: When preparing for the JCEE (Joint College Entrance Exam) in the last month, I took a 10-minute break after studying for 50 minutes.
我覺得一天六次這種循環就很夠不用再多了
