快樂學習 小兄弟倆英文呱呱叫

「快樂閱讀，學習英文效率高！」嘉義市北興國中國一學生林詣翔、崇文國小小四林家宇兄弟檔，從小在父母鼓勵下大量閱讀英文書籍、聽有聲書。當同齡孩子還在背單字、啃文法，兄弟倆悠遊在英文奇幻小說世界中，沒花大錢補習、出國遊學，就在多益考試中拿到980分與585分好成績。

My comments: A 980 on TOEIC is excellent!

「台灣英文教育讓孩子落入背誦、考試框架，功課一堆，考試出錯還要罰寫，太辛苦了。」小兄弟的父母林奎利、蔡靜雯營造快樂學習環境，讓兒子青出於藍。當醫師的林奎利說，先買英語有聲書當兒子遊戲、睡眠時的「背景音」，讓兒子潛移默化累積聽力、發音能力。

My comments: I have to ask Ms. Hung (洪蘭教授) if using English stories as the background noise works while the kids are sleeping.  I doubt.

「兒子最初聽2分鐘就睡著，後來不知不覺愈聽愈有味，切掉CD還抗議要繼續聽。」蔡靜雯說，家中四處擺滿英文繪本，兒子想看就能信手拈來；林奎利到國外開會，給兒子的禮物不是玩具，而是一個行李箱的英文書。

My comments: The rhythm of the English language makes it sound like music.  Nursery rhymes are a good start.

兄弟倆偏愛奇幻小說，家中小書庫有整套原文魔戒、波特萊爾大遇險、哈利波特，860頁的奇幻小說「龍騎士」，兄弟倆1周看完，林詣翔笑說，「為了看小說，寫功課超有效率。」

My comments: Extensive reading is a very effective way to enhance English. Almost all the successful English learners are avid readers of English fiction or other genres of books.  Just start with what you have passion for!

林奎利一度憂心孩子無法跟上學校進度，帶兒子考托福、多益，結果詣翔在托福iBT拿到105分，已達國外頂尖大學申請門檻，9月報考滿分990分的多益測驗，詣翔拿到980高分，家宇585分也高於國內公務員平均成績。考大學的學測英文考題，詣翔在選擇題拿下滿分。

My comments: The total score of TOEFL iBT is 120, and he got a 105!   This proves that as long as one has a good command of English, they can perform well on standardized tests.

現在兄弟倆英文比爸媽強，常用英文聊天。近日熱映的「少年PI的奇幻漂流」，2人早先看完原文書，再到電影院比較二者差異，「開心學英文，就不會有壓力！」

My comments: My American friend Konraad highly recommended to me Life of Pi several years ago.
