Around Half the World in 45 Days

A former student of mine is going on his trip with his girlfriend around half the world in 45 days. A 45-day trip! What's more amazing, the trip costs only NT$100,000 per person. He is setting out on July 7. Here's his itinerary:

Taiwan--> Singapore-->Malaysia-->London-->Paris-->Brussels-->Amsterdam-->Rome-->Florence-->Venice-->Frankfurt-->Miami

After staying in Miami for 4 days, he is flying to Houston, where he's going to pursue his PhD degree in January.

When I first heard on the phone about this "feat" of his, my jaw dropped. When I was his age, I didn't have the slightest idea of leaving Taiwan to take a look at any place out there around the world, not to mention 9 countries, 11 cities. Yesterday, we had dinner together and he told me what he is going to see and do in each city. All the things we once studied in the textbook seemed so real now.

He added that it was not until he started to plan for this trip half a year ago that he began to take interest in history and geography, just as one won't realize the importance of English until they are going abroad or have to communicate with their foreign friends.

Bon voyage, Hungzen!
