Shihjen (張世仁), a student in Class 209, won the 2nd prize in Taipei Citywide High School Speech Contest (Group A) today.

In the Impromptu Speech, Shihjen drew a photo of Lung, Ying-tai (龍應台), an influential essayist and cultural critic. That was the most difficult one. The other three photos to be drawn from are those of President Ma, Ying-jeou (馬英九), Lin, Huai-min (林懷民), and Wang, Chien-ming (王建民). However, though not knowing who the woman in the photo was, Shihjen used her wits to describe how the woman appeared to her--well-educated, confident, self-assured--and based on that, Shihjen talked about how the democracy in Taiwan helped women to stand out and enjoy the equality with men. That's really nice!

Congratulations, Shihjen!
