A student's writing--No Cross, No Crown

A student in Class 316 wrote her afterthought after reading General MacArthur's Prayer for His Son. To have a better idea of what she wrote, you'd better read the prayer first:

No cross, No Crown

When I first read the article, “General MacArthur’s Prayer for His Son,” I was confused. Why didn’t the general pray to the Lord to give his son a comfortable life? Wasn’t a life like that good? But later it dawned on me that there may be some eternal values lying in pain and failure.

If a person has not been oppressed, he will not know the value of liberty. If a person has never experienced difficulties and challenges, then he will not know how to stand up in the storm. When life gives us stones, it gives a chance for us to turn those stones into jewels. The hard stuff will help us realize the true meaning of life. In the end, everything superficial will fade away, but our thoughts and the essence of life will be immortal.

As the saying goes, "No cross, no crown." Finally, I understood general MacArthur’s mindset. We become a better person in difficult times. (155 words) (31634)
