I can never forget the fight my parents and I had on my sixteenth birthday. By that day, I found a student exchange program. Having been longing to study abroad since my childhood, I finally could carry out my dream. I plucked up my courage to tell my parents about this golden opportunity; however the rejoicing atmosphere turned into dead silence. They seemed to disagree with my plan. From then, I didn’t talk to them for days in the hope of getting their consent. I was quiet for weeks, eager for a “yes.”

Nevertheless, nothing appeared to change their mind, I diligently started writing my one-year plan for the coveted exchange student life, including what efforts I would make before going abroad and during the year how I would enhance my English ability. After finishing it, I gave it go my parents hoping that they would be moved and gave me the green light. They smiled warmly and nodded as they read my plan, as if I had grown up so much within such a short time. I finally realized that I shouldn’t have taken all my parents’ endeavor for granted, that I shouldn’t have thought that I could get whatever is on my dream list, and that I had to fight for my own dream and show my parents my intense craving for the dream that I hold on to. And that attitude has benefited me a lot ever since. (241 words) (31116) (18)
