Oral Reports

This semester, the students still need to give a 5-minute oral report in turn. However, instead of giving a summary of an article they read in our reading book, they can talk about anything they like. Besides, they signed up for the date they'd like to give their talk.

Yesterday, Shihjen (張世仁) in Class 209 talked about "We Are the World for Haiti." Today, Jochun (林柔鈞) in Class 214 talked about dolphins. Well-prepared, they both did a good job. Shihjen even played the video. Today I asked Jochun why she picked this topic. She answered because she loved dolphins.

Having students talk about what they love makes this assignment more interesting. It also makes the task more challenging. Last semester, when summarizing an article, they don't need to worry about the substance. They just based their talk on something already well written. This semester, for their presentation, they have to start from scratch--deciding the topic and the content. They may even need to do some research. Both are good practice, I believe.
