Mandarin Musical "Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beholder"

Time: 7:30pm-10pm

Place: National Concert Hall, Taipei.

Attendees: 丘秋萱, 周秀蘋, 陳美珠, 陳萬玲, 李欣蓉

This evening, I watched a Mandarin musical "Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beholder" with my high school classmates. The musical was adapted from a story in Chinese history. with abundant creativity.  The refrain of the theme song, "Not to see is to know" (看不見,才知道), kept me in the trap of thought. The saying "To see is to believe" seems to have its fallacy. What you see might ironically deceive you. In the musical, King of Wu (吳王夫差) suddenly lost his sight. He doesn't want others to know he is blind, so he announces that he will choose his queen/concubine by listening to the candidates sing. Finally, Dong Shih (東施), who is ugly but with has a beautiful voice, is selected. As time goes by, since the king cannot see and thus can feel Shih's inner beauty through his heart, he fell in love with her. Although their love story is just part of the musical, it gives the audience food for thought.

Taking pictures is not allowed during the musical. So I could only do it in the intermission.
