Gathering with Solo

Solo, a former NHSH student whose wedding I attended on January 9, is going back to the States tomorrow evening. We had a gathering this afternoon. Both music lovers, we spent most of the time talking about music.

He mentioned his French friend Romain, who was the best man at his wedding. Romain majored in classical music and then film scoring. He can remember the score after listening to a piece of music once, like Rachmaninoff. Once he was asked to conduct Prokofiev's symphony. Just by going over the score twice, he did an excellent job. Nature or nurture? Both, I believe.

Solo is also excellent in producing music. He invited me to listen to two pieces he wrote. They were beautiful. One of them was for a Hakka series in Taiwan. I told him that whatever he had done to pave his way to music was worth it.
