The 12th day of the Chinese New Year

The twelfth day of the Chinese New Year. I had a special guest in the afternoon. Eric (李鎮宇), a student who graduated around 7 years ago, showed up in my office. He told me he was admitted to the graduate school at National Yangming University and is going to major in bio-informatics (生物醫學資訊).

Eric was a social science major in high school. However, in college he majored in computer science and engineering. Now, to many people's surprise, he is getting into the field of medicine. Life is really unpredictable.

He told me that in the application interview, he was asked to read a one-page (size A4) English article on a Nobel Chemistry Prize winner in one minute, then gave a summary, and read the article aloud.

We chatted for about one and a half hours. A sentence he quoted a professor at Yangming University when he was working there as a system analyst impressed me deeply:

"If you want to succeed, you have to connect the dots backwards from that point and know what you have to do now." (假如你想成功,你就要往回算你現在應該做什麼。)
